Saint Bernard Club  Newsletter 2011

This year, 2011, was  an exciting year for our Saint Bernard club as we celebrated our 35th anniversary. In today’s age it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain a dog club in South Africa, and caring for a giant breed such as the Saint Bernard is more difficult than most. To all those Saint fanciers we say thank you for your efforts and hope you will continue to champion this great breed.

We are one of the few clubs that can report a 25% increase in entries over last year, and we certainly hope that we can sustain this growth over the next few years.

Our judges this year for our bumper weekend were  Mrs. Joan Zielinski , President of the Saint Bernard club of America, who judged the Saint Bernerd Championship Show and Mr Stan Zielinski (USA) who judged  the Wits Show. . We hope they had a great weekend with our Saint Bernards and we thank them both for judging our dogs. An informal discussion by Joan and Stan about judging Saints in the USA was both interesting and educational.

Special guests this year were Rudi Thomann , CEO and founder of the  the Barry Foundation in Switzerland, and his wife Ruth, as well as Clive and Sharlene Bergh from Namibia.

All had a fantastic and memorable trip to the Kruger Park and we hope they will visit again.

Our dog food prizes were sponsored by Montego foods, as they do every year. We thank them for their generous donation of food as well as ring decorations and accessories.

Other prizes have been donated by Mrs. Mara Southern, for which we would like to extend our thanks.

Special thanks go to all those who made generous donations to cover the show costs. Your support is invaluable. A big thanks goes to Ute Bormann for all her effort and fund raising.
